Queensday 2011

Yesterday ofcourse... The Wedding and the dress :) didn't Kate or Katherine as she has to be called now look absolutely beautifull and Pippa as well.

But here in Holland today we've got another thing going on, which has the whole country (every year again) going beserk... and especially today with the sun shining and great temperatures. Koninginnedag or Queen's Day is a national holiday here in the Holland and the kingdom's other constituent countries, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, on the 30th April (or on the 29th if the 30th is a Sunday). Queen's Day celebrates the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands and is supposed to be a day of national unity and "togetherness".

Queen's Day is known for its "freemarket" all over the country, where everybody is allowed to sell things in the streets and it’s “oranje gekte” or orange craze: everyone dresses in orange and drinks oranje bitter and eats oranje tompouzen.... I could tell you more, but I can best show you :)

I really don't mind at all, cause if you pair these jeanse with some killer heels, it makes you look so sexy. I just love this the dark blue/ navy version. Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Ines de la Fressange

I just ordered my " must have spring read" ....

The Eiffel Tower, crepes, navy blue, and those girls who seem like they could walk in heels all day. French model and Roger Vivier muse Ines de la Fressange captures the essence of Parisian style in her fashionable new tome, Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Ines de la Fressange.

The book touches on everything from common beauty faux pas’ to de la Fressange’s seven wardrobe essentials (blazer, trench, navy sweater, tank, little black dress, jeans, leather jacket) modeled by none other than her daughter Nine D’Urso. (Nine may look familiar; she was featured in Teen Vogue back in 2009!)

Beyond style standards, the guide recommends where to shop for each item, whether online or in Paris. In the final section, “Ines’s Paris,” de la Fressange identifies her favorite Parisian escapes, including tucked away museums, cafes, and hotels.

Ibiza

Some of the best parties in the world are the opening en closing day parties on Ibiza :). But besides all the parties Ibiza is a wonderful place to spend some time: It's brimming with creativity, buzzing with a cosmopolitan culture and yet managing to retain the atmosphere of a bohemian escape, it’s easy to feel instantly AT HOME on this magical island. Its accepting culture is a remnant of the hippie movement of the late 1960’s – it doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, Ibiza is the place to see and be seen.

To be really honest, I was thinking about going to Formentera instead of Ibiza this year... but after seeing the great villas by Harissa Ibiza I'm having my doubts.

Their Philosophy

Ibiza is known for its special atmosphere and cosmopolitan mix of people. Harissa brings this warm, innovative and personal atmosphere into its villas. Every single villa is an oasis of tranquility and comfort, styled with love and attention to every detail.

All our properties are located at exclusive spots on the island. Some villas are walking distance from the beach at Cala Garbo, or a short drive to Cala D'Hort with impressive views of the majestic rock Es Vedra and the Mediterranean. Others are at the fashionable area of Cala Jondal or in the quiet and unspoilt north of the island.

We acknowledge that our guests are looking for a balance between style and comfort. They appreciate this at home, but also expect it while on holiday. All our villas have an architecture and style which is relaxed, fresh and cosy. Our intention is to make our guests feel comfortable and slowly feel like the villa is their home.

Blackberry Lime Cake

I am spamming you with recipes for my spring lunch party but they are just so good! What to think of this Blackberry Lime Cake, I got the recipe from Kitchensimplicity.

Ingredients ( Serves 6 - 8)
5 tablespoons butter, softened
1 cup superfine sugar (a.k.a. caster or bartender sugar)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted.
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Zest of 1 lime
3 cups blackberries, divided
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup powdered sugar

How to make?
Preheat oven 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until well blended (about 5 minutes; the sugar will be slow to incorporate). Beat in vanilla extract until fluffy and light (about 15 seconds). Add egg, then milk, beating well between additions. It will be a thin batter.

In a smaller bowl, combined flour and baking powder with a wire whisk. Add dry ingredients into batter in quarters, mixing quickly with the whisk after each addition. Stir in lime zest.
Pour batter into well-greased 13 X 9-inch cake pan. Distribute half the blackberries on batter. Top with granulated sugar. Position pan on center rack of oven. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven. The blackberries will have sunken and disappeared. Top with remaining blueberries, and return to over. Bake another 10-15 minutes, or until center of cake tests clean with a skewer.

Let cool before cutting into rectangles. Remove servings with spatula. Dust with powdered sugar. Serve as is or with lime curd and/or clotted cream.
